Matthew Bealor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences at Rowan University's College of Science & Mathematics. His research focuses on animal behavior, evolutionary biology, and ecological interactions, particularly in reptiles and fishes.
- PhD in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from University of Colorado at Boulder
- MS in Biology from San Diego State University
- BS in Biology/Psychology from California State University-East Bay
Research spans:
- Evolution of feeding behaviors in snakes and lizards
- Chemical communication mechanisms in predator-prey systems
- Mating behavior dynamics in vertebrates
- Extended phenotypes through structure-building behavior in fishes
- Population biology of invasive Italian Wall Lizards
Recent publications highlight behavioral evolution in snakes, chemical ecology, and autophagy mechanisms in nematodes. He collaborates with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on lizard population studies.
- Animal Behavior Society
- Society for the Study of Reptiles & Amphibians
- Society for the Study of Evolution
Teaching includes Evolution & Scientific Inquiry, Herpetology, Ichthyology, Mammalogy, and Advanced Evolution courses. His lab investigates behavioral repeatability and ecological adaptation through field and experimental studies.
