Matthew Andrew Brodie is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales in the Faculty of Engineering. A neuroscientist and engineer with over 10 years of experience, he specializes in developing technology-based interventions and leading clinical trials. His research spans peripheral nerve stimulation, wearable technology, 3D-printed orthotics, health app development, and motion capture for gait analysis.
His research focuses on neurorehabilitation technologies for motor impairments, particularly in aging populations and neurological disorders. Key interests include biomechanics of human movement, falls prevention strategies, and the development of digital biomarkers for neurodegenerative conditions. His work integrates biomedical engineering principles with clinical applications to improve mobility and quality of life.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on wearable sensor technology for assessing and predicting age-related conditions. Research trends include validation of digital gait biomarkers, VR-based rehabilitation interventions, and predictive models for dementia and depression using movement data.
Professor Brodie has received significant recognition for his research contributions, including:
- 13 research prizes
- 2 research medals
- 11 research grants
- 2 research fellowships
He leads an active research team currently accepting students for projects in neurorehabilitation technology. His laboratory focuses on movement analysis and collaborates with industry partners including Walking Tall Health, AbilityMade, and Tyree iHealthE to translate research into clinical applications.
