Dr. Matthew Alford is a Lecturer at the University of Bath's Politics, Languages & International Studies department. His research focuses on media narratives, state influence, propaganda, and censorship, particularly examining Hollywood's role in promoting government agendas. He co-produced the award-winning documentary *Theaters of War* (2022), which explores Pentagon and CIA involvement in Hollywood. Alford has also authored *National Security Cinema: The Shocking New Evidence of Government Control in Hollywood* (2017). His work bridges film studies, international relations, and political communication, emphasizing how power structures shape cultural narratives.
Alford has held visiting lecturer roles at Franklin and Marshall College, University of Birmingham, University of Portsmouth, and University of Bristol. He actively engages in public discourse through TEDx talks, media reform advocacy, and parliamentary candidacies. His research has been translated into multiple languages, and he presented on Julian Assange's legal case at the United Nations in 2023.
