Matteo Mauro serves as Associate Professor and Group Leader at the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS) within the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, France, a position held since 2018. His research focuses on designing luminescent metal-organic materials for optoelectronic applications including light-emitting devices and bio-imaging systems.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Chemical Sciences, University of Milan (2009)
- M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences, University of Milan (2006)
- B.Sc. (cum laude) in Chemistry, University of Bari (2004)
Dr. Mauro's research spans Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, and Photophysics, with emphasis on phosphorescent complexes, optoelectronic materials, and self-assembling systems. His group investigates photophysical properties of metal complexes using N-heterocyclic carbenes and multinuclear architectures to tune excited-state dynamics for applications in OLEDs, LECs, and biomedical imaging. Recent work demonstrates particular expertise in copper, gold, and zinc-based emitters.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2021-2023) reveals a strategic focus on near-infrared/blue emitters for display technologies and anticancer metal complexes. His group consistently bridges synthesis, photophysical characterization, and theoretical modeling to advance materials for optoelectronics and biomedicine, with notable contributions to chiroptical materials and stimuli-responsive luminescent systems.
Key recognitions include:
- "Raffaello Nasini" Gold Medal (2023)
- Young Researcher Prize, French Chemical Society (2019)
- Finalist, European Young Chemist Award (2018)
- ENI Award "Debut in Research" (2010)
He currently supervises three PhD students and has mentored multiple alumni including Dr. Anna Bonfiglio. His research is supported by prestigious fellowships including Alexander von Humboldt (2011-2012) and USIAS (2013-2015), alongside editorial roles such as ChemPhotoChem Early-Career Advisory Board (2021-2024). His Organic Materials group (DMO) at IPCMS maintains strong international collaborations for developing next-generation luminescent materials.
