Matteo Maran

Matteo Maran is a Guest Researcher at the Department of Neuropsychology, Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MPI CBS) in Leipzig. He is concurrently a postdoc at the Donders Centre for Cognition (Radboud University) in the Speech Perception in Audiovisual Communication lab led by Prof. Hans Rutger Bosker. His research focuses on how the brain processes linguistic information using neuroimaging techniques like EEG and TMS, alongside behavioral experiments.

• Education:
• PhD Candidate (2017–Present): MPI CBS, supervised by Prof. Angela D. Friederici and Dr. Emiliano Zaccarella.
• Master's in Cognitive Neuroscience (2013–2015): University of Padova (Thesis: Posterior parietal cortex role in visual short-term memory).
• Bachelor's in Cognitive Psychology (2010–2013): University of Padova (Thesis: Frontal lobe damage disorders).

Research Interests: Cognitive neuroscience of language, speech perception, neurophysiological methods (EEG/TMS/tDCS), and how internal linguistic representations and external cues (e.g., gestures) support communication. He investigates how predictive coding and multimodal integration enable efficient speech comprehension.

Professional Roles: Member of the Leipzig Lectures on Language organizing committee (2021). Completed internships at San Camillo Hospital (Venice), University of Glasgow, and University of Leicester. Also worked with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
