Dr. Matteo Fumagalli is a Lecturer at the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Imperial College London. He uses statistics and computer science to address complex questions in human genetics and evolutionary biology, with a focus on open-source and open-access science.
He graduated with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2011) and held postdoctoral positions at UC Berkeley (EMBO fellowship) and UCL (HFSP and NIH funding). His research includes developing machine learning tools like ImaGene for genomic analysis.
His research interests span evolutionary biology, population genomics, and computational methods for genetic data. He actively engages in outreach activities on human evolution and supervises secondary school pupils.
