Matteo Chiesa

Professor Matteo Chiesa is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi. He leads the Laboratory for Energy and Nano Science (LENS), focusing on advancing sustainable energy systems through nanomaterials and high-resolution characterization techniques.

His research spans nanoscale energy transfer, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and functional coatings for energy and health sectors. He has pioneered AFM techniques to decouple conservative and dissipative forces, enabling precise characterization of material properties. His work on spectral splitting for solar energy aims to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, while his studies on surface interactions inform antibacterial coatings and sand-resistant photovoltaic modules.

Professor Chiesa has collaborated with Masdar on photovoltaic projects achieving record-low electricity prices (1.35c/kWh). He teaches advanced courses in materials science, solid-state physics, and solar energy technologies.
