Dr. Matt R. Raven is a Professor in the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. He serves as Coordinator for Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource Education and leads the Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center (UPREC) in Chatham, Michigan. Prior to MSU, he held faculty positions at Montana State University and Mississippi State University.
Education: B.S. in Plant Science (UC Davis), Ag Specialist/Life Science credentials (UC Davis), M.Ed. in Agricultural Education (Kansas State), Ph.D. in Agricultural Education (Ohio State).
Research focuses on higher education pedagogy, agricultural innovation adoption, community food systems, and soil health through grazing livestock systems. He actively coordinates teacher training programs for future agriculture educators.
Awarded the Distinguished Teacher Award (2020) and involved in significant grant projects including a $19M soil health initiative. His work bridges academic research with community-based agricultural practices, emphasizing sustainable systems.
