Dr. Matt Landreman is a Researcher at the Institute for Research in Electronics & Applied Physics (IREAP) at the University of Maryland, College Park. His work focuses on plasma physics, particularly magnetically confined plasmas and stellarator design. He obtained his PhD from MIT in 2011 and has been with IREAP since 2013.
- Affiliations: IREAP, University of Maryland
- Roles: Research Scientist, Principal Investigator of UMD Stellarator Group
Research interests include symmetry in magnetic fields, stellarator optimization, plasma turbulence, and adjoint methods. His group develops computational tools like the SFINCS code for neoclassical transport analysis.
Recent articles explore reactor-scale stellarator designs, plasma performance in fusion pilot plants, and coil optimization. His work bridges theory and high-performance computing, addressing challenges in fusion energy.
Advising: Supervised students Elizabeth Paul (Rosenbluth Award recipient) and Jaideep Pathak (Outstanding Graduate Assistant).
Labs/Teams: Part of the plasma theory group at Maryland, leading the UMD Stellarator Group. Active in open-source projects (e.g., SFINCS, REGCOIL).
