Matt Johnson is an Assistant Professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, affiliated with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies. He teaches language courses and interdisciplinary topics such as Latin American Popular Music, Food and Culture, and Environmental Studies.

His research explores the intersection of Latin American cultural production with modern social/political dynamics, focusing on:
- Critique of neoliberalism
- Avant-garde innovation
- Philosophical and critical theory
- Neocolonialism
- Intermediality in film and literature
- Globalization's impact on cultural identity
His recent publications examine topics like Lucrecia Martel's cinematic critique, César Aira's procedural aesthetics, and transnational literary dialogues between Argentine and European traditions.
He directs the Hispanic Studies minor and offers office hours for student engagement.
