Matt Greenlees is a Lecturer in Environmental Management at Charles Sturt University’s Port Macquarie campus. He holds a BSc (hons) and PhD from the University of Sydney and has held research fellowships there, followed by roles at Macquarie and Monash Universities. His primary research focuses on the ecology, impacts, and control of invasive cane toads in Australia, particularly at their southern range in northern New South Wales. He also investigates conservation of reptiles and amphibians through over 60 peer-reviewed papers and two book chapters.
Education: BSc (hons) and PhD in Zoology/Ecology from the University of Sydney. Postdoctoral research at Sydney, followed by academic roles at multiple institutions.
Research interests span cane toad invasion dynamics, native species responses, control methods, and reptile/amphibian conservation. His work integrates field studies, habitat analysis, and behavioral ecology to address ecological threats.
Notable contributions include studies on post-fire ecosystem recovery, cane toad dispersal mechanisms, and public participation in pest control. He collaborates with The Australian Museum’s Herpetology Section as an honorary research associate.
Teaching expertise includes Zoology, Ecology, and field-based courses, emphasizing practical skills in remote and coastal environments. His work bridges academic research, conservation practice, and community engagement.
