Mats Ainegren

Mats Ainegren is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at Mid Sweden University's Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Subject Didactics. He serves as Head of the Wind Tunnel Laboratory at the Sports Tech Research Centre in Östersund. His research focuses on Sports Technology and Sports Physiology, specifically examining human-equipment interactions, biomechanics, performance optimization in cross-country skiing, cold asthma prevention in athletes, and aerodynamics in winter sports.

His research encompasses:

• Equipment testing (roller skis, breathing devices)
• Environmental physiology (sub-zero performance, airway responses)
• Biomechanical modeling
• Aerodynamic effects in endurance sports

Ainegren's recent publications (2020-2024) predominantly investigate respiratory mechanics in cold environments, aerodynamic efficiency in skiing, and validation of sports equipment. He directs significant infrastructure projects including the development of specialized climatic wind tunnels for sports research.
