Matilda Kästel is a lecturer in Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Sweden, where she also teaches in the Teacher Education Program in Visual Arts and contributes to Artistic Research and Development initiatives.
Her practice centers on feminist strategies in applied art, critically examining European hierarchical dualism that positions women and nature as interconnected yet inferior entities. She explores material contradictions—particularly glass’s tension between beauty and danger, fragility and hardness—to create works provoking discomfort through desirability. Her process integrates the body as inspiration, tool, and recipient, utilizing kinetics, performance, and mixed media to challenge objectification and exploitation narratives.
