Matijević Tijana

Matijević Tijana is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory (IFDT), University of Belgrade. A literary scholar trained in Belgrade and Bologna, she earned her PhD from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with a feminist reading of post-Yugoslav literature. Previously, she taught and conducted research at the Slavonic Studies departments of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and Friedrich Schiller University Jena until 2023.

Research Interests

Matijević’s scholarship interrogates the continuities and ruptures between Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav literatures and cultures. She is particularly interested in the entanglement of aesthetics and ideology, feminist re-readings of canonical texts, and the role of avant-garde and leftist currents in shaping alternative cultural histories. Her interdisciplinary approach blends literary theory, cultural memory studies, and feminist critique.

Publication Trends

Her recent work (2022–2023) ranges from analyses of post-Yugoslav literary temporality and feminist periodical culture to television representations of Chernobyl as the symbolic end of utopia. These studies collectively map the shifting cultural imaginaries of (post-)socialist Europe, emphasizing gender, memory, and ideology.
