Matias Reus Pons

Matias Reus Pons is a Tenured Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB). He holds a PhD in Demography (2018) from the University of Groningen and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a Master's in Population Studies (2013), and a Bachelor's in Geography (2012). His research focuses on population geography, migration impacts on health and security, tourism-driven local development, and geospatial analysis of demographic trends in mature tourist destinations.

He teaches courses such as Population Geography, Territory and Society, and Global Geopolitics across multiple academic programs, including Geography, History of Art, and Early Childhood Education. He is an active member of the Demographic, Economic and Tourism Studies (GEDETUR) and Education and Behavioural Geography (GIEGP) research groups.

Past teaching roles span 2020–2024, covering subjects like Industrial Geography and Practical Placements in Primary Education. His research outputs emphasize comparative studies of migrant health outcomes and demographic shifts in Europe.
