Dr. Matiar Howlader is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McMaster University, Canada, and an Associate Member of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on nanotechnology, electrochemical sensors, and integrated sensor systems for health and environmental applications. He holds a B.Sc. from Khulna University (1988), and M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. from Kyushu University, Japan (1999). Dr. Howlader leads the Micro- and Nano-Systems Laboratory (MNSL), where his team develops novel materials and sensor technologies, including surface-activated nanobonding (SAB) for flexible and hard material integration.
His expertise spans nanomaterials, energy harvesting, and artificial neural networks for healthcare diagnostics. Notable contributions include green-synthesized nanosensors for environmental monitoring and wearable biosensors for personalized healthcare. Dr. Howlader teaches courses such as Introduction to Nanotechnology and Electrical Circuits and Power.
