Prof. Dr. Mathilde Poyet serves as a Professor at the Institute for Experimental Medicine (IEM) within Kiel University (CAU), Germany. She co-leads the research group "Groussin / Poyet" focused on synthetic bacterial communities and their therapeutic applications for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Her primary research examines the ecology and functional dynamics of engineered microbiomes to modulate IBD-associated dysbiosis. This work integrates microbial ecology, synthetic biology, and translational medicine approaches to develop microbiome-based interventions.
Research interests include:
- Microbiome-host interactions in gastrointestinal diseases
- Synthetic community assembly principles
- Bacterial community ecology
- Microbiome modulation strategies
- Translational applications for IBD therapeutics
She participates in the DFG-funded "mitarget" Phase 2 consortium, collaborating with Research Center Borstel, Helmholtz Zentrum München, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, and Universität zu Lübeck to advance microbiome research infrastructure.
