Mathieu EMILY is a Full Professor of Statistics at Institut Agro - Rennes Angers, where he serves as Head of the Research Department of Statistics at IRMAR (UMR CNRS 6625). He holds leadership positions including Co-director of the Food Science Hub and elected member of the Teacher Council. His research spans statistical genetics, genomics, spatial statistics, biostatistics, and structural modeling, with applications in agriculture, medicine, and computational biology.
Education:
Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from Université de Rennes 1 (2016)
Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (2006)
Research Focus: Professor Emily develops statistical methodologies for high-dimensional biological data, with emphasis on gene-gene interactions, spatial analysis, and machine learning applications. His work bridges theoretical statistics with practical applications in genomics, nutrition science, and environmental modeling.
Publication Trends: Recent publications demonstrate methodological innovations in regression modeling, genetic interaction detection, and statistical software development, alongside applied research in microbiome analysis, disease forecasting, and agricultural monitoring. His interdisciplinary collaborations span microbiology, exercise physiology, and food science.
Research Leadership:
- Principal Investigator for multiple programs including MODOMICS (statistical modeling of omics data), MODULO (accelerometric sequence analysis), and MOLoSSE (dependence modeling in genetic studies)
- Supervisor of 6 PhD students and postdocs working on statistical genetics, accelerometric analysis, and machine learning applications
- Developer of R packages: GeneGeneInteR, SpatialClustering, SMILE, EpiTag, and IndOR for statistical genetics research
Administrative Roles:
- Director of Statistics and Computer Science Department (2017-2020)
- Head of Applied Mathematics Unit (2017-2020)
- Program director for Master's in Applied Statistics and Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics
