معرفی
Mathias Winterhalter is a Senior Professor of Biophysics at the School of Science, Constructor University Bremen. His research focuses on the biophysics of membrane transport, particularly the mechanisms of selective permeability in biological membranes and membrane channels. He investigates antibiotic translocation pathways in Gram-negative bacteria at the molecular level, with emphasis on porin-mediated transport and nanopore engineering. Winterhalter collaborates extensively with research groups including Prof. Ullrich Kleinekathöfer (computational biophysics), Prof. Werner Nau (supramolecular chemistry), Prof. R. Wagner (membrane proteins), and the Fraunhofer Institute IME in Hamburg.
Research Focus: Winterhalter's work spans membrane biophysics, antibiotic permeation mechanisms, and nanoengineered transport systems. Key areas include:
- Quantification of molecular transport across biological membranes
- Structural and functional studies of bacterial porins
- Development of nanopore-based sensing platforms
- Supramolecular approaches for transmembrane signal transduction
- Antibiotic translocation pathways in Gram-negative pathogens
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2023-2025) demonstrate strong emphasis on:
- Single-molecule characterization of nanopores and transporters
- Structure-function relationships in bacterial porins (OmpF, OmpC, OccD3)
- Engineering supramolecular systems for controlled ion transport
- Antibiotic permeation mechanisms and resistance pathways
- Development of biosensing platforms using engineered membranes
