Mathias Wilichowski

Prof. Mathias Wilichowski is a Professor at the Wismar University of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Process/Environmental Technology and the Department of Environmental Process Technology. He specializes in thermal energy storage systems, environmental process engineering, and waste recycling technologies. His research focuses on developing energy-efficient concrete-based multi-zone heat storage systems to optimize industrial waste heat utilization.

• Designed a concrete recipe with high thermal conductivity and heat resistance for scalable storage applications.

Infrastructure:

Manages the Environmental Process Technology Laboratory (Labor für Umweltverfahrenstechnik), offering experimental facilities for student projects and industrial collaborations. The lab supports practical training, bachelor/master theses, and contract research in process engineering and environmental technology.

Grants & Partnerships:

• Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Operational Programme 2014-2020.
• Industry collaboration with Betonwerk Ribnitz GmbH and Pantlitz for pilot storage system implementation.
