Mathias Siems is a Full-time Professor of Private Law and Market Regulation at the European University Institute (EUI) since 2019. He holds a dual background from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on corporate law, comparative law, and empirical legal methods, with active involvement in the Finance, Innovation and Business Regulation Working Group and Decoding Judicial Cross-Citations project.
He previously taught at Durham University, the University of East Anglia, and Harvard Law School as a Fulbright Scholar. His work emphasizes transnational legal frameworks, legal transplants, and the intersection of law with economic systems. Key publications include analyses of corporate governance models, judicial citation networks, and the methodology of comparative legal studies.
As an advisor and supervisor, he supports researchers in topics like insolvency law, intellectual property, and EU legal harmonization. His empirical approach bridges theoretical and practical legal challenges, contributing to debates on global legal systems and their socio-economic impacts.
