Mathias Karlsson is a Lecturer at the Department of Management within the School of Economics and Business Administration at Linnaeus University. His academic work bridges entrepreneurship, philosophy, and social change, with a particular focus on how entrepreneurial practices can contribute to more responsible and sustainable societal development. He teaches courses in entrepreneurship, management, and supervises degree projects in organization.
Dr. Karlsson's research interests span entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, organization theory, ethics, sustainability, and philosophical approaches to management. His work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach that draws heavily on philosophy—particularly the work of Simon Critchley—to examine how entrepreneurship can be practiced as a force for social change. He explores themes of ethical responsibility, emancipation, and the infinite demands of taking responsibility seriously in business contexts.
His publication record shows a consistent focus on critical perspectives on entrepreneurship and leadership. Recent work examines posthumanist leadership, socio-ecological transitions in rural areas, and reimagining entrepreneurship as a struggle for a freer life. His research demonstrates a clear trajectory from examining social entrepreneurship in corporate contexts to exploring broader philosophical questions about leadership, responsibility, and social transformation.
