Mathias Dolls is a Research Associate at ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research and Deputy Director of the ifo Center for Macroeconomics and Surveys. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cologne (2012), a Diplom-Volkswirt (M.Sc. Economics) from the same institution (2008), and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Cologne and Stockholm School of Economics (2006).
His research focuses on fiscal policy, income inequality, taxation, and EU economic integration. He leads projects analyzing unemployment insurance schemes for the Eurozone, the effects of rent controls, and global working-from-home trends. His work has been published in journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Econometrica, and Journal of Public Economics.
Notable contributions include studies on automatic fiscal stabilizers during crises, EU regional policy evaluation using satellite data, and public support for economic reforms. He has received the Schmölders-Preis (2017) and fellowships from the Cologne Graduate School and German National Academic Foundation.
