Mathias Dewatripont

Mathias Dewatripont is a Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), with a distinguished career spanning academic, institutional, and policy-oriented roles. He has been a tenured associate professor and full professor at ULB since 1990, with part-time status during 2011-2017. From 1998 to 2011, he served as a visiting professor at MIT, and prior to that, as a visiting assistant professor at MIT from 1988-1989. He held leadership positions such as Executive Director (2011-2017) and Vice-Governor (2014-2015) at the National Bank of Belgium, and Dean of the Solvay Business School in 2010-2011.

His research spans Organization Economics, Contract Theory, Innovation Policy, and Banking and Finance, with a focus on renegotiation, corporate governance, and prudential regulation. He has co-authored seminal works including Contract Theory (2005) and Balancing the Banks (2010), and published in top-tier journals like Econometrica and Quarterly Journal of Economics.

He has received numerous accolades, including the Jahnsson Medal (2003), Francqui Prize (1998), and fellowships from the Econometric Society, European Economic Association, and European Corporate Governance Institute. He is a Founding Member of the ERC Scientific Council and has held editorial roles at the Review of Economic Studies.
