Mathew Kiang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University. His research focuses on computational epidemiology, social determinants of health, and integrating novel data sources for public health surveillance. He holds academic appointments at the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute and Bio-X initiative.
Education: BA in Sociology (San Diego State University, 2007), MPH in International Public Health (New York University, 2010), ScD in Quantitative Methods and Social Epidemiology (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, 2018).
Research interests include opioid crisis modeling, air pollution disparities, vaccine-preventable disease dynamics, and health inequities. His work has been funded through NIH grants (NIDA R00/R21) and published in high-impact journals like JAMA, NPJ Digital Medicine, and American Journal of Epidemiology.
Recent projects include modeling vaccine-elimination reversals, using social media for opioid surveillance, and analyzing excess mortality patterns during the pandemic. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across public health, data science, and policy domains.
