Mathew Goldberg

Mathew Goldberg is an Associate Teaching Professor in English and Technical Communication. He holds a BSE in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas. As faculty advisor for Southwinds, the university’s literary magazine, he also advises the creative writing minor program he co-designed. His debut short story collection Night Watch, winner of the 2025 Spokane Prize for Short Fiction, explores themes of trust, hidden lives, and existential darkness. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, Shenandoah, and American Short Fiction. Goldberg has received recognition including an Individual Artist Fellowship and Pushcart Prize Special Mention.
