Masun Nabhan Homsi is a Researcher in the Department of Molecular Toxicology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. His academic journey includes roles as Associate Professor (2017–2020) and Assistant Professor (2013–2020) at the Computer Science and Information Technology Department of Simon Bolivar University in Venezuela, followed by a Lecturer position at Alshahba University in Syria (2011–2012). He holds a PhD in Informatics from the University of Aleppo (2011), an MSc (2002), and a Dipl. Informatics (1997) from the same institution, along with a TSU in Informatics from IUTIRLA, Venezuela (1993).
His research focuses on machine learning and deep learning applications in medical data analysis, including electrocardiograms (ECG), electroencephalograms (EEG), and metagenomic data. Prior work involved developing algorithms for arrhythmia detection, sleep arousal classification, and sentiment analysis using knowledge graphs. At UFZ, he investigates toxicoproteomics and environmental health impacts of chemicals like glyphosate and phthalates, contributing to projects such as the ProMetheus and Ecotoxicology initiatives.
Key collaborations include Prof. Martin von Bergen and teams studying microbiome interactions, metabolic disruptions, and molecular toxicology. His publications span journals like Environmental International, Microorganisms, and Physiological Measurement, with emphases on environmental chemical effects, medical signal processing, and bioinformatics.
