معرفی
Massimo Santarelli is a Full Professor in the Department of Energy (DENERG) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he serves as Coordinator of the ENERGETICA Doctoral School and is a member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab. He holds multiple advisory roles including Scientific Advisor for the Partnership Agreement with GREEN INDEPENDENCE, the European Association Hydrogen Europe Research, and the European EIT InnoEnergy Partnership.
His research focuses on hydrogen processes and technologies, CO2 capture and utilization, electrochemical processes, and thermo-chemical processes applied to energy systems. His work spans from fundamental materials research to industrial-scale energy system implementation, with particular emphasis on sustainable energy conversion and decarbonization strategies across multiple sectors including semiconductor manufacturing, ammonia production, and transportation.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trend toward industrial decarbonization through green hydrogen technologies, with increasing focus on economic viability assessments, integration of renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, and development of novel materials for electrochemical conversion processes. His research bridges fundamental science with practical industrial applications, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.
- Fellow of CNR ITAE, Italy (2011-present)
Professor Santarelli actively supervises over 30 PhD students across multiple doctoral programs including ENERGETICS and MATERIALS, SUSTAINABLE PROCESSES AND SYSTEMS FOR ENERGY TRANSITION. He leads numerous major research grants including MetroHyVe 3 (2025-2028), H2START (2025-2030), and HyAcademy.EU (2024-2028), with total project funding spanning competitive EU programs (Horizon Europe, Clean Hydrogen Partnership), national initiatives, and commercial contracts. His research group M3ES (DENERG) focuses on clean mobility, innovative powertrains, and renewable energy conversion systems.
He directs the Energy Center Lab and is deeply involved in multiple European hydrogen initiatives that connect academic research with industrial implementation, particularly through the European Hydrogen Academy and various Clean Hydrogen Partnership projects focused on testing, validation, and skills development for the hydrogen economy.
