Massimo Morini is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), and also serves as a professor at Bocconi University. He holds a PhD in Mathematics and combines academic research with a leading role in industry as Head of Rates and Credit Modelling at Banca IMI, part of Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy's largest bank.
His research focuses on quantitative finance, model risk management, credit risk, and the application of blockchain technology and smart contracts in financial markets. He pioneered blockchain research in finance as early as 2013 and authored the first article proposing blockchain as a solution for modernizing financial infrastructure.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend toward decentralized finance, trusted computation, collateral optimization, and regulatory innovation. These works span disciplines in blockchain, financial engineering, cryptography, and risk modeling, with subfields including smart contracts, DeFi, XVA adjustments, and enterprise blockchain applications.
Massimo has been a consultant to the World Bank, CFTC, and various regulators, and his work has been cited in the US Senate. He has served on scientific boards including Numerix (NYC) and the Blockchain Lab (Swiss consortium), and was a board member of the R3 banks’ consortium, leading the Valuation, Collateral & Risk Management working group.
