Dr. Massimo Antognozzi is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Physics, University of Bristol, specializing in nanoscale phenomena and scanning probe microscopy. He developed the Lateral Molecular Force Microscope (LMFM), capable of measuring sub-picoNewton forces, and the Single-Cell Fluctuation Imaging (SCFI) technique to study bacterial metabolic states under antibiotics.
Research Highlights:
- LMFM enables high-resolution imaging of soft nanostructures like DNA and synthetic peptides.
- SCFI is being applied to rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing and cancer cell chemotherapeutic response analysis.
- Investigates light-matter interactions using structured light fields and plasmonic sensors.
Education:
- B.Sc., University of Bologna
- Ph.D., University of Bristol
Grants & Collaborations:
- Principal Investigator for SCFI antimicrobial resistance project (2024–2027).
- Active in EPSRC-sponsored nanotechnology research (since 2016).
External Roles:
- Chief Scientific Officer, Vitamica Ltd (since 2018).
