Prof. Mascha Pörzgen holds the position of Professor of Dialogue Directing and Dramatic Teaching at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Born in Bonn and raised in Moscow, she trained in film and theater acting in Berlin, graduating with distinction from the University of Hamburg under Manfred Brauneck and Jürgen Flimm. Her career includes roles as an assistant director at the Burgtheater Vienna under notable figures like Claus Peymann and George Tabori, and collaborations with Werner Schroeter, Joachim Herz, and Johannes Schaaf across major theaters like the Bolshoi and Mariinsky.
Her work spans experimental, classical, and contemporary theater and opera, including productions of Verdi’s *I Vespri Siciliani*, Tchaikovsky’s *Eugene Onegin*, and modern works like Ligeti’s *Le Grand Macabre*. She has directed at venues in Vienna, Dresden, Berlin, and beyond. Teaching roles include stage instruction at the Berlin State Opera’s International Opera Studio, lecturer positions at Folkwang University in Essen (2007–2015), and visiting professorships at Berlin University of the Arts (2012/13) and Mozarteum University Salzburg (2015).
At HMTMH, she contributes to the Department of Opera and Vocal Studies, emphasizing dialogue directing and dramatic pedagogy. Her expertise bridges performance, pedagogy, and intercultural theatrical production.
