María Vanessa Tabernero Magro is a Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Alcalá, where she also serves as Director of Alumni and Employability. Her academic career spans over two decades with continuous research activity in organometallic chemistry and sustainable catalysis.
Her research focuses on sustainable catalytic processes with organometallic compounds, particularly examining CO2 activation, C-H bond activation using p-block metals, and polymerization processes using titanium complexes. She leads the research group Sustainable Catalytic Processes with Organometallic Compounds, which investigates homogeneous and nanocatalysts for green chemical processes.
Professor Tabernero Magro has published extensively in high-impact chemistry journals including Organometallics, Polymer, Dalton Transactions, and Inorganica Chimica Acta. Her recent work shows a dual focus on fundamental titanium catalysis research and science communication through The Conversation platform, addressing topics from bioplastics to strategic elements in geopolitics.
Her research funding history demonstrates strong support from multiple sources:
- Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation projects (totaling over €400,000)
- Community of Madrid and University of Alcalá internal funding
- Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) outreach projects
- Industry collaborations with companies like YESOS SEGURA, S.L.
As an educator, she teaches across multiple degree programs including Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Environmental Sciences, with courses ranging from fundamental Inorganic Chemistry to specialized topics in sustainable chemistry. She has supervised PhD students and numerous research projects, demonstrating her commitment to training the next generation of chemists.
