María Sard Bauzá

Dr. María Sard Bauzá is a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), with expertise in tourism economics and labor economics. She leads the Economic Analysis and Modeling (GAME) research group, contributes to the Critical Geographies of Urbanization, Sustainability, and Touristification (CRIGUST) and the Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Laboratory (LEIS), and has published in top-tier journals.

Her research focuses on tourism economics, urbanization dynamics, sustainability, and labor markets, particularly in tourist destinations. She has been awarded the 2002 Fitur-Jorge Vila Fradera Prize and the 2020 Best Article Award in the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research. She has led multiple teaching innovation projects and served on the editorial boards of journals like the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research and the Journal of Tourism & Hospitality.

In university management, she co-directed the Master's in Tourism Management and Planning (2014-2019), coordinated courses like Tourism Policy and Research Foundations, and currently oversees the Industrial Economics course across three undergraduate programs. She has five recognized five-year teaching periods and participated in Erasmus+ mobility programs at North Copenhagen Business Academy.
