María M. Carrión is a Professor of Comparative Literature and Religion at Emory University, serving as Department Chair of Religion and Core Faculty in Islamic Civilization Studies. She holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Puerto Rico, an M.S. in Art Education and M.A. in Spanish from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Ph.D. in Spanish from Yale University. Her research focuses on early modern Spain’s cultural and literary production, with emphases on dramatic theory, legal practices, architectural history, and Andalusi studies.
