María Cristina Cuervo is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, holding dual appointments in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese and the Department of Linguistics. She is based at Northrop Frye Hall in Toronto. Her research focuses on linguistic theory, syntax, and morphology, particularly how grammatical phenomena shape linguistic meaning. She has been funded by U of T grants and the Jackman Research Fellowship. In 2013, she received the Outstanding Teaching Award from Arts & Science.
Education:

Research Interests: Her work examines the structural properties of language, including argument/event structure, dative arguments, and morphological form. Recent collaborations with students explore Spanish tense systems and acquisition processes. She employs diverse data sources, including speaker intuitions, corpora, and experimental studies on children, native speakers, and second-language learners.
