Marylène Lieber is a Full Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Institute of Gender Studies at the University of Geneva, where she also serves as Director of the Institute of Gender Studies and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her academic career spans over two decades, with prior roles as Associate Professor at the same institution and postdoctoral research at the University of Neuchâtel and French Center for Studies on Contemporary China.
Her research focuses on:
- Gender-based violence and sexual harassment
- Women’s experiences in public and urban spaces
- Intersectionality in migration and labor
- Chinese migration in Europe
- Legal and judicial responses to gender violence
Her recent publications and presentations reveal a consistent focus on the sociological dimensions of consent, justice, and spatial inequality. She has led major research initiatives such as the 'Public.ques!' project, which combines sociological inquiry with artistic expression to challenge gendered norms in cities. Her work bridges academic research with public policy, frequently engaging with legal reforms and institutional practices.
