Maryann Skrabal

Maryann Skrabal is a Professor and Director of the Office of Experiential Education at Creighton University's School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. With 18 years of dedication to experiential education (EE), she has spearheaded initiatives to enhance pharmacy student training, particularly in distance learning pathways. Her career began at Creighton in 1995, following her PharmD and residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She transitioned to full-time EE leadership in 2002, focusing on preceptor development and site assessment.

Her research emphasizes evaluating pharmacy practice environments and preceptor training, with publications in journals like American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and Journal of Pharmacy Practice. She has presented nationally and internationally on EE topics, including opioid crisis preparedness and virtual experiential models during the pandemic.

Teaching interests span diabetes, hypertension, lipids, immunizations, and patient-centered communication. She co-authored chapters in Communication Skills in Pharmacy Practice and Patient Assessment in Pharmacy Practice.

Maryann co-founded a worksite diabetes risk-reduction program, demonstrating her commitment to preventive care and interprofessional collaboration. She has also contributed to national surveys on preceptor needs and portfolio practices in pharmacy education.
