Maryam Sultan, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor at McGovern Medical School, part of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). She serves as an Attending Physician at TIRR Memorial Hermann and is the Director of the UT Physicians Pelvic Disorders Clinic, where she specializes in pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and women's health rehabilitation.
Dr. Sultan received her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York in 2014. She completed her internal medicine internship at New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital in 2015 and her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 2018. She joined the McGovern Medical School faculty in December 2018.
Her clinical interests focus on Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Pelvic Pain, Women's Health Rehabilitation, and Neurorehabilitation. She is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R).
Dr. Sultan's research output includes publications on gastrointestinal disorders, mental health during pandemics, and women's health conditions. Notably, she has published on gastric volvulus as a cause of chest pain (later retracted), the relationship between smoking/coffee consumption and upper gastrointestinal symptoms in Helicobacter pylori patients, and anxiety disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
