Dr. Maryam Abbasi is a Habilitation candidate and Research Fellow at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology and the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology. Her research focuses on rituals, gender identity, and indigenous practices in the Middle East, particularly in Iran's Hormozgan province. She holds a Ph.D. from Heidelberg University (2022) and has conducted extensive fieldwork on the Zar ritual and its socio-cultural implications.

Research Interests: Dr. Abbasi explores identity formation, sensorial ethnography, and the legitimacy of esoteric practices in the Persian Gulf region. Her work bridges anthropology with visual storytelling and examines how rituals like the Zar reflect gender dynamics and cultural resilience.
