Mary Tiberg is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Saint Xavier University (SXU). She joined SXU in 2018 and teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels across online, in-person, hybrid, and clinical instruction formats. She serves as coordinator for the Gerontology Studies program and the Accelerated BSN program.
Dr. Tiberg's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago
- M.S. in Nursing Administration from San Diego State University
- B.S. in Nursing from Benedictine University
Her research centers on understanding coping mechanisms for end-stage liver disease, identifying nursing interventions to improve care quality and life for affected individuals. Initial work focused on cirrhosis patients, establishing foundations for future testing of healthcare strategies. Expertise spans gerontology, nursing administration, ethics, and geriatric syndromes.
Dr. Tiberg has received several prestigious awards:
- Department of the Navy's Meritorious Civilian Service Medal
- U Chicago Medicine Outpatient Nurse of the Year
- U Chicago GI Fellowship Award
- American Liver Foundation's Journey Award
She has mentored multiple student research projects resulting in poster presentations at the SXU Research Expo, Nursing Research Symposium (University of Chicago Medical Center), and Palmer Symposium (Loyola University, Chicago), demonstrating commitment to developing nursing scholars through hands-on research guidance.
