Mary Tate is an Associate Professor at the School of Information Management, Victoria University of Wellington, with extensive industry experience prior to her academic career. She has secured more than $$1$$ million in research funding, primarily from Australian sources, and maintains an active research program focused on digital transformation in organizational contexts.
Dr. Tate holds a BA (Hons) from Massey University and a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington. Her academic journey transitioned from 20+ years of IT industry practice in service delivery, project management, website management, and business analysis to scholarly research on digital technologies and organizational change.
Her research centers on digital channels and services using new technologies, with particular emphasis on e-services, e-HRM, welfare services, agents/bots, shared services, and multi-channel strategy. Her recent publications reveal an evolving research trajectory from foundational work on business process modeling to cutting-edge explorations of Human-AI collaboration, digital leadership in government, and blockchain's impact on business ecosystems. She has developed frameworks for evaluating digital government success and understanding BizDevOps practices.
Dr. Tate's scholarly contributions have been recognized with multiple awards including Best Theory Paper (2024), Best paper award: second runner-up (2023), Research Showcase selection (2023), and Association for Information Systems Distinguished Member cum Laude (2023).

She actively supervises doctoral students with current projects focusing on AI supported product innovation, Human-AI Collaboration Impact on Organisational Structures, and Regenerative Data Governance. Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as Business Process Design and Management, Designing and Evaluating User-Centered Applications, and Emerging Technologies, Organisations and Society. Dr. Tate serves on editorial boards including Communications of the Association for Information Systems and Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and has held leadership roles as Program co-chair for the Australasian Conference on Information Systems.
