Mary McDermott is an Assistant Professor at DeSales University, actively contributing to the College of Arts, Education, and Humanities. She serves as a faculty advisor to the DeSales University Film Festival (DUFF) and co-launched 'The SoPA Pod' in collaboration with the School of Performing Arts faculty.
- BA in History from Villanova University
- MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University
- MA in English from West Chester University
- PhD candidate in Rhetoric, Communications, and Information Design (RCID) at Clemson University
Mary specializes in film, screenwriting, and interactive narrative design. Her work spans documentary production (e.g., What Will Become of Us, Whatever Dreams They Had) and feature fiction scripts recognized in competitions like Slamdance, WeScreenplay, BlueCat, and Austin Film Festival. She is developing a semi-autobiographical interactive short, Focal Aware, as part of her PhD research.
She received the L.A. Press Club SoCal Journalism Award for her documentary Whatever Dreams They Had and was a top ten finalist at Slamdance Screenplay Competition for her MFA thesis script.
Mary collaborates with DeSales University's School of Performing Arts faculty and is deeply involved in the university's TV/film community. Her creative practice includes interactive media development and documentary storytelling.
