Mary Lou Soffa is the Owens R. Cheatham Professor Emerita at University of Virginia, where she served as Computer Science Department Chair (2004-2012). Her research spans cloud performance optimization, compiler technologies, and automated software testing. She has mentored 32 PhD graduates, half being women.
Current projects include NSF-funded 'Cloud Mentoring' for cost-performance optimization and testing frameworks for distributed applications. Soffa co-founded CRA-W programs to increase diversity in computing.
