Mary Kate Donovan

Mary Kate Donovan is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Department Chair at Skidmore College, affiliated with the Department of World Languages and Literatures. Her work bridges Spanish cultural studies, film analysis, and critical race theory.

Research Interests focus on modern and contemporary Spanish cultural studies, particularly the intersections of race, migration, and media representation. Her studies on Spanish cinema explore how immigrant narratives shape national identity.

Publications highlight themes such as racialized celebrity in 1930s Spain, economic anxieties in media portrayals of Chinese immigration, and colonial cartography in Barcelona's Raval district. These works reflect her expertise in transnational cultural analysis.
