Mary Kaitlin M. Murphy is an Associate Professor in Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory and Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona, with affiliations in the School of Art and Human Rights Practice Program. Her work focuses on memory activism's role in democracy, atrocity prevention, and decolonial movements. She holds a PhD from NYU (2013) and completed Harvard's Public Leadership Executive Education (2022).

Research interests include memory studies, performance studies, visual culture, hemispheric American studies, and human rights. Current projects examine memory's intersection with democracy and racialized/gendered violence in Northern Americas. Awards include the Charles E. Scheidt Faculty Fellowship (SUNY Binghamton, 2023-2024) and Fulbright Specialist designation.
Consultancy work spans memory activism, transitional justice, and post-conflict reconstruction in English/Spanish. She has served as Director of Graduate Studies and Faculty Senator at the University of Arizona, and holds leadership roles in the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics.
