Mary Jean “MJ” Sedlock is a Lecturer in Theatre, Production Manager, and Technical Director at the University of Maine’s School of Performing Arts. She holds a B.S. in Theatre Design/Production from Illinois State University, an M.F.A. in Scenic Technology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an M.B.A. from the Maine Business School. MJ oversees all technical aspects of productions for the Division of Theatre/Dance, managing over 40 shows at UMaine including site-specific performances in the Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium and Littlefield Gardens. She also serves as Production Manager for Opera House Arts in Stonington, ME, producing outdoor theatre productions like Avalon, which earned a 2020 Innovation Award.

Her research interests focus on equity and social justice in technical theatre, amplified through her roles as Chair of the Faculty Senate DEI Committee and Vice Commissioner for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the USITT Technical Production Commission. She hosts bi-monthly webinars highlighting underrepresented voices in technical production.
Award-winning productions include Urinetown, Constellations, and The Wolves at UMaine, alongside Opera House Arts’ The Tempest, Desdemona, and Avalon. Her work bridges academic theatre with professional site-specific productions while advancing DEI initiatives in technical arts.
