Mary Harrah is an Instructor in the School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University (ASU), where she has taught Russian language since 2015. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (2005) and Master of Music (2000) from ASU, and a B.A. in History and Russian Language and Literature (1995) from Wellesley College, where she graduated with High Honors in Russian Language and Literature. She lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, from 1994-1998.
Her research focuses on second language pedagogy, the role of music in Russian social and historical contexts, and contemporary Russian musicians. She has been a Fulbright Hays Scholar (2014) and served as Instructional Lead for ASU's inaugural STARTALK summer program (2012-2017). Prior to ASU, she taught at the Scottsdale Unified School District and Mesa Community College.
Her teaching spans elementary and intermediate Russian language courses, including RUS 101 and RUS 202, emphasizing immersive and culturally rich methodologies.
