Mary Garvey Algero is the Associate Dean of Faculty Development and Academic Affairs at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, holding dual distinguished professorships: Warren E. Mouledoux Distinguished Professor of Law and Philip and Eugenie Brooks Distinguished Professor of Law. She co-directs the Lawyering Program and Westerfield Fellows Program, and oversees the Loyola Study Abroad Program in Spetses, Greece. Her expertise spans legal research, writing, civil procedure, and ethics, with publications on federal civil procedure, Louisiana civil law, and the contracts clause.
Education: J.D., Loyola University New Orleans (1989); B.A., University of New Orleans (1986, with distinction).
Research interests include legal pedagogy, federal jurisdiction, and civil procedure. She has authored Louisiana Legal Research and co-authored Federal Legal Research, and frequently presents at professional conferences. She previously served as president of the Association of Legal Writing Directors and on editorial boards for legal journals.
Leadership roles include chairing the AALS Associate Deans of Academic Affairs & Research section and serving on the AALS Legal Writing, Reasoning, & Research section’s executive committee. Teaching focuses on civil procedure, legal ethics, and comparative judicial processes in international settings.
