Mary Edwin

Mary Edwin is an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, affiliated with the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs in the College of Education. She also serves as a Media Contact for UMSL Experts. Dr. Edwin holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Her research focuses on career development in K-12 settings and STEM career aspirations for underrepresented groups. She employs large educational datasets like the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) to explore interventions promoting equity in career pathways. Key areas include antiracist frameworks in school-family partnerships, culturally informed suicide prevention training for counselors, and the role of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in educational equity.

Notable awards include the 2020 Gerald and Deanne Gitner Excellence in Teaching Award. Her courses include School Counseling Practicum, Ethics in Counseling, and Career Information Development. Dr. Edwin’s work emphasizes translating research into practical interventions, such as career unit designs for elementary students and culturally responsive counselor training programs.
