Mary E. Norton

Mary E. Norton, MD serves as Professor and Vice Chair for Clinical and Translational Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. She holds the prestigious David E. Thorburn, M.D. and Kate McKee Thorburn Endowed Chair in Perinatal Medicine and Genetics.

Her research focuses on prenatal diagnosis and reproductive genetics, with particular expertise in obstetrical ultrasound, genetic screening methodologies, chromosomal microarray analysis, and cell-free DNA analysis. Dr. Norton's work extends to non-invasive prenatal testing, patient preferences in genetic counseling, provider education, decision analysis, and whole exome/genome sequencing applications in maternal-fetal medicine.

Dr. Norton has received numerous accolades including the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine's Dru Carlson Award for Best Research in Ultrasound and Genetics (2014) and recognition as one of "Best Doctors in America" in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Clinical Genetics (2009-2015). She has been consistently recognized for her teaching excellence with multiple Outstanding Resident Teaching Awards.
